Sustainable Energy
If the Weir can be restored it could provide a sustainable energy source for hydro electric power; CWRP has limited management resource and would likely outsource the implementation, construction, operation and management of the function, in return for a licence fee. The fee would help to finance the future management and maintenance of the Weir, its associated heritage sites and conservation areas. A feasibility study is on going.
Proposals have been considered to provide a fish pass at an estimated cost of £150,000 including fees, VAT and contingencies. The advantage of building any fish pass at the same time as restoring the Weir is that it is less expensive, however, funding has not been forthcoming from third parties and therefore this project is unlikely to proceed.
