Restoration Overview
Calver Weir is in poor condition and major breaches, particularly in the central area threaten the stability of the structure.
Since 2002 consultants, consulting engineers, architects and contractors have been involved in surveying the Weir, providing assessments of the structure its condition and stability and quotation of the restoration costs. In addition, surveys have been produced showing damage and dilapidations with a reference system of its geometry.
Third parties such as the Environment Agency, Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) have also been involved.

Following a tender process, formal proposals have been made by consulting engineers and contractors for structural strengthening of the Weir, aesthetic restoration of the exposed parts of the Weir, provision for post construction maintenance, a programme for construction and an comprehensive and detailed estimate of the costs involved.
These proposals formed the basis of the Application for a Heritage Grant to the HLF.
The engineering costs for the restoration of the Weir, including the use of gritstone from a local quarry, fees, VAT and contingencies is £1.316 million.
