PROJECT OVERVIEW

The entire project area is under private ownership.

Management and maintenance work of almost all the structures included in the project, is carried out at the cost and discretion of the owners, supported in many cases, by local community efforts, led by CWRP and with the guidance and assistance of PDNPA.

Wildlife conservation and the Biodiversity Action Plan habitats have been developed and benefited from the Vision for Wildlife Project and rangers, under the tutelage of PDNPA and from a Countryside Stewardship Scheme agreement.

Besides local people, the overwhelming majority of visitors come for day visits, often repeating earlier visits because they enjoyed the unique heritage and ecological features of the area, which also provide an interesting, peaceful and easy walk on the same level along the riverbanks. Guided walks for visitors and school children, hosted by local experts take place regularly in the non-winter months.

The restoration of Calver Weir will safeguard this important heritage feature of the Industrial Revolution for future generations and maintain the flow of water into the Goit which drove the water wheels in the power house at Calver Mill and conserve the ecology and environment of Calver Marshes.
