Calver Weir is situated just off the A625, on the River Derwent, between Calver and Froggatt Bridge, in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire.

This part of the river is placid and tranquil and characterised by a wide, lazy flow between tree-grit banks, backed by meadows woodlands and wetlands.

In contrast the River Derwent downstream of the Weir, towards Calver Mill becomes shallower and water gathers pace, breaking into turbulent cascades along its wide and rocky bed. This is very dramatic and generates considerable noise when the river flows at high speed, seemingly with only nature in control.

Calver Weir is part of a complex of heritage sites which was involved in cotton spinning.

The Shuttle House, adjacent to Calver Bridge, once housed the sluice machinery to control the flow of water down the goit.

The goit runs parallel with the Heritage Way between Calver Bridge and Calver Mill.

Calver Mill where the wheel house used to power cotton spinning is situated is in the heart of Calver Village; it is now converted to private apartments.

The Old School House, now part of Stocking Farm was built in 1817 to educate the factory children first as a Sunday school and in 1831 a day school. It can be reached via a private road to Calver Mill leading to a track to the Farm.
